Art Around The Home

Time for another Blogstalking post. So, this time, it's art around the home or some such thing. The freakier the better. Well, what's more freaky than having this across the wall from you when you're on the toilet? Eye see you pee Hee hee "Eye See You Pee" And of course, on the other wall, behind the toilet: I Kiss Your Ass "Kiss My Ass" hee hee hee. Sick minds. Turtle Mirror Frame In the middle of those two pieces, I have a mirror that I framed with broken ceramic pottery. I did this at one of those Paint-Your-Own Pottery places a few years back. I pissed off some old lady that because I horded all the lime green. Sorry lady, I had a vision, and it required the lime green to carry it out. See the turtles in the corners? Mantle Art In the living room, I have a cheap beautiful silver spray painted plastic brushed metal mirror and of course more plants. They're everywhere here. It's really the main artwork around. I'd take more pictures but hey, how many plants do you want to see? All right, all right. We'll see more plants. Oooh....spooky This neato thing sits in the corner of the living room - just to the right of the fireplace. It's an aromatherapy mister thing. You put essential oils in it and it makes the room smell swell. I just think it looks cool. And of course, more plants. If we shift to the right, we have my wall 'o entertainment. It's all an illuuuuuuusion. Living Room wall You think there windows there don'tcha? Don'tcha? Nope. Nothing of the sort. I put the curtains there thinking it would look more like a home theater. But people seem to think it's to give it the illusion of more windows. Nah, I'm not that sneaky. Behind the one on the left are my cds and extra dvd's and *gasp* video tapes. Not that I watch those, but more for nostalgia's sake. And of course, a plant. (Notice the turtles on the shelves.) Turtle Plant Holder! If we turn around, we see my all time favorite piece of turtle art. I got this for my birthday last year. My mom and my sister and I were shopping at Marshalls and I always go check out what they have in the back with all the cool decoratey stuff. That's where I got the eyeball and the lips. I keep hoping to find an ear or a nose. No such luck so far. But I had to have this turtle. Who wouldn't? Art around the home To the left of the turtle is a book case. Above it is this neat pastel drawing of the inky-dinky college I went to. Ahh, nostalgia. Below it are some more - you guessed it - plants. Giant Peace Lily In the bedroom, I have only one piece of artwork. Yup. A plant. But a giant one! This is a Giant Peace Lily. Spathyphylum to those who wanna get all technical about it. But it's still giant. That bloom is the size of my hand. Before I took these pictures, I hit the local yarn shops for more SP goodies and sales. One local yarn shop is moving locations so, well, when the whole store is 20% off and some other stuff 50% what's a girl to do? But when I got home, look what I found? Gotcha! I knew it! He's been using it all this time but would never let me actually see it! I feel vindicated now.

Love all the plants & art. My peace lily is the plant I had in my freshman dorm room - umm...got it in '92 & it survived 3 dorm rooms, college apt., went with me when I moved to Greenville, SC, stayed with my parents in GA when I traveled full time with work & then they drove it up to Chicago when I moved here in 99. :)

How great that the kitty bed is being used! :)

Nice art (and plants!!!)

So let me ask you a question--you've got two cats, how the hell do you keep those plants alive? My damn cats are constantly eating mine---which is why I was so excited to get a patio with this apartment, my plants are finally thriving outside of their destructive reach. Of course, none of my cats like to lick soap, so maybe that's the trade off. Hmm.

Do you happen to name your plants? That peace lily reminds me of a lily I knew once named Ruby, hee hee!

Your place looks so nice! And I love the bathroom art. I'm also wondering how you keep your plants so healthy---I've given up on having any nice plants in my house.

Oooh that sneaky cat. He looks very annoyed to be caught.

Your place rocks. I love the mirror you made but the bathroom art...er... lol that would freak me out to be watched like that. I love all the greenery too.

Your art looks great. And so does your cat! I love the reddish, gingery kitties.

You have such healthy-looking plants, too! I envy people who can keep them alive. Mine just keep dying.

I love the eye/lips, how big are they?

Your condo is gorgeous too! Where on earth did you get the aromatherapy mister? I want one!

Also I hate you because you can keep plants alive. How do you keep kitties out of them? Mine see a houseplant and think "Kick ass! Mom got us one of those cool litter boxes again!" Bastards.

Re: Tatting - all you technically need is string, so yeah, pretty portable. Google 'how to tat' and you'll see. It looks complicated, but once you do it, it's not. I'll still get pics :)

I'm glad you hoarded the lime green pottery from the old lady. The mirror is gorgeous. Great job.

Ha Ha - Morris got busted!!
Maybe it's a hot weather thing - Somerset has recently rediscovered the pi.

We only keep plants in the bedroom, because Greedo chews on anything that has leaves that dangle or looks remotely like grass. And then he pukes it up 30 minutes later.

Ok, the eye/lips thing would freak me out, I think. How cool. :)

I love all of it, especially the mirror with the abstract turtle mosaic border.

The eye and lips? Fantastic. Did you make them?

Lucky you! What a delightful apartment! I have a total brown thumb with house plants. I can grow anything outside but not inside. Love the art. Sue

I'm just curious where you would find the eye and the lips to hang on your wall.

I love your turtles!! I collect turtles too :) How did you start?

My mom has collected turtles my whole life. I have always love them and my hubby knew this... and he actually proposed to me in a turtle box. We were in Mexico and found a little old lady selling pottery to paint. We decided this would be fun! We both chose turtles and he somehow managed to write "Will you Marry me" inside without me seeing it. A few days later when the lady came back with out pottery all fired and glossy - he almost dropped his because his hands were shaking so badly! Then he showed me his and gave me a ring!

I love turtles!

PS - I have that turtle watering can over your TV!!
