A Tale of Two Turtles
Years ago when I was a Freshmen in college, I admired an upperclassmen's necklace. It was a turtle. I had to have one just like it. It was a beautiful green stone cut into the shape of a turtle, hanging from a leather cord. I asked her where she'd gotten it, and was told the Discovery Place store in a nearby mall. Not too much longer later, I had one of my own. I wore it around my neck for the next 6 or 7 years - only removing it for special occasions that required a bit "classier" jewelry. Through several years of summer camp, a summer of painting houses (where it acquired several new colors), through graduate school and beyond, I wore this turtle. It was a part of me.
4 years ago, one of my best friends from college got married. I traveled back to NY to be with her on her special day. I even got to go with her to have her hair done at a salon that morning. They were able to fit me in and do my hair as well. It just so happens that they had a pair of earrings and a matching necklace that matched my dress perfectly. Being such a special day, I figured it warranted a change of jewelry. So I took off the turtle and I set it down to put on my newly acquired bobbles. I never saw that turtle again. I'd forgotten it at the salon. I called them and asked if they still had it. They did. I begged them to please mail it to me, it was my favorite necklace! With reluctance, they did. When the envelope arrived I was so excited. Until I saw the hole in the corner of the envelope. I called the USPS and managed to get through to their lost and found department. No luck. I was heartbroken.
Last Wednesday my heart was mended. (I'm crying as I write this, I don't think she realized just how much this really did mean to me) My friend May brought me a present.
The turtle came back to me.

What a great friend you have! It's it wonderful when things like that happen? Love the necklace (maybe because I have one just like it, I swear, only my turtle is all green).
That is so sweet! I'm glad you have a new turtle there at your neck, and such a great friend and story to share.
I'm so glad you've got another one.
I lost a piece of jewellery my brother bought for me and I was devastated.
It's lovely BTW.
Wait? Is that the same one? Does May work for the PO? The reason I ask is because you describe the original one as a green stone turtle, but it acquired some colors throughtout your summer painting and the new (?) one is colored.
But regardless of the semantics--great story. You've got your turtle back!!!!!
Wow.. I don't know if this is a case of It's a Small World, or what goes around comes back around... Either way, that's wonderful!!! Everyone wants to be that lucky!
That's so sweet! And your new turtle buddy is very cute!
I love your story! Isn't it amazing how good friends just 'know'?
(One of my fav coffee mugs has a turtle on it and everytime I use it, I think of you!)
Ah, the universe tends to unfold as it should. Glad you've got your friend back. :)
What a great ending to an unhappy story. My grandfather made my mom, sister, and I necklaces with rose quartz hearts. They were stolen from our house and I have been searching for some since I was 14. I found the exact same necklaces at an antique shop this summer - Sue
I guess there's hope for my lost necklace yet...it was my grandmother's, a little butterfly with wings made of opal, and I lost it my freshman year of high school, at school. I searched everywhere I could think of for weeks, never found it. I've never seen anything like it, either.
But it's never too late! I'm glad you yours.
You have a wonderful friend. That's an amazing gift.
Fantastic! The karma that gets transferred in the universe :)....
I'm so glad you have been reunited with your turtle - what a great friend. (both May & the turtle LOL)
PS-- Please put your turtles-on-a-log banner up again! It always make me smile!

What a relief...and your green and red turtle is perfect!!! Karma did come back to you...
Karma rocks.
And that's a very pretty turtle.
Wow, that is awesome! :)
IS it the same one???
Ha! No. Just one that looks exactly like the original.
Aw shucks, it were co-inky-denk, but a v. v. good co-inky-denk. I'm just really glad and honored to have been able to bring a little turtle of sunshine back to you! :)
That's such a sweet story! It could not have happened to a sweeter person! Gack, that sounds all corny and gross. Hooray for turtles!
