Toasty Toes

Socks from vKnits!Lemme tell y'all. I am continuously amazed at the generosity, thoughtfulness, and overall warm and fuzzyness that I encounter on the knittyboards. Granted, there's been some bad too (see sidenote at the bottom), but the good far outshines that. See these socks? They were knit for me by Vknits. All because of a thread in which we were discussing how many pairs of handknit socks we owned. V mentioned that she had at least 30-40 pair herself, never mind what she's made for her hubby. Jokingly, I posted my foot measurements. Wouldn't you know it, the wonderful v decided to go ahead and make me some socks? And not just any socks, but the best fitting pair I now own? They're made out of Wildefoot on size 1s. And alas, caused her hands much pain as a result. I am honored that she even continued and finished them for me. I absolutely love the detail of using a mini-cable instead of plain knits in the 2x2 ribbing, and it looks like it was followed by a round or two of purl ridges before heading into the stockinette. I am so going to use that next pair of stockinette socks I do! It's things like this that warm the cockles of the heart. Or, as Dennis Leary makes me continue to think - maybe below the cockles, maybe in the subcockle area. Maybe in the liver, maybe in the kidneys, maybe even in the colon. We just don't know. Heh. (Sidenote - if you plan to donate any money to - oh no one in particular - it's probably best to forget that idea as it won't be put to the use you intend. And if you have donated, I am so sorry that your goodwill was most likely spent on frivolous shit at the mall and not on rent, car repair, or healthcare as it should have been. And yes, I'm calling her out here in public because I can't do it on the knittyboard where it really should go, but I can't bear to stick to Dear So-and-So anymore. The goodwill of the knittyboard has been compromised, taken advantage of, but hopefully - not harmed. The more I learn about her, the less I like in the long run. If you want a taste of it, just read a bit of history on her here, specifically 38, 39 and 46. I no longer answer her repeated phone calls as I want no part of her manufactured drama. And for a much more detailed rant, please see the fabulous Roxy's rant on the subject.)

ah crap, I just realized that could come off as completely scarastic given the end part of the post. I was sincere! about the socks! They are wonderful. Now, I'm spamming your comment table, like when people keep calling your answering machine to explain what they meant in their last message. eeek!

OMG, I have to use that one "I want no part of her manufactured drama!" - that applies to a few people I know. LOVE IT!

VKnits, and people like you Cristi, represent the best of the Knittyboards.

Other people? well yeah. They don't. I'm truly sorry about the entire situation and I applaud you for not answering any more of her calls.

Thanks for being brave. And, for being awesome and not posting this you know where because of the drama it would make.

*Hugs*
Sarah. I'm with you on this.

those socks rock!! i must try that cuff myself. they stay up super well?

as for the rest, thanks for putting it out in public now. I agree with Sarah. keep it here, away from there. a real shame, though.

Thanks Sarah. Knittyheads need to see this and know so that if any people out there were planning on sending her more money - or any in the future - that they are warned ahead of time and don't send her any more money. Knittyheads are good people. Too bad we found a bad apple. And in a veteran poster too.

Those socks are gorgeous!!! I need to branch out and try different socks; mini-cables -- ooooohhhh!!!

I admit to being skeptical about the situation in the first place; I'm not one to help strangers -- call me jaded, tell me I have no compassion -- because I was burned a few times when I was young and idealistic.

This is why Cristi absolutely effing rocks.

I applaud her and my true knittyhead friends who know their place in my life... and I hope that real friends/knittyheads/people of good will & intentions do not stop being who they are because we may not champion you everyday but you are loved and appreciated.

Joing the fray to say that you're brave and right in venting the board issues where they would reach folks. And the socks are just lovely!

Man!!!!
Why is it that I ALWAYS miss the juicy stuff happening on Knitty until after the fact?!?

Those mini cables are the cat's ass.

Lovely socks!

As for the other stuff... it's a shame. People who abuse other people's goodwill make me infinitely sad.

Those cuffs rock!

It sucks that people take advantage of kind hearted, generous people.

You almost look like you're going to start typing with those cool socks! Vknits is a machine! DANG!

I didn't get into that whole thing to begin with...I'm sorry you got taken advantage of. That sucks.

Thanks for the heads up; and keeping the discussion here. I'd hate to see you banned...

People are basically good...look at your socks. There will always be people who take advantage.

You are a generous person with all of your resources

I'm going to have to read up on those mini cables.

Also, thanks for helping weed out the bad on the board. Since I've been around I've noticed the awesome generosity, and I'd hate to see that compromised. -Stephie26 on the board

I always had that vibe without anything to back it up. Thanks for posting.

Gorgeous socks! I too thought you were going to type with them! It would not have surprised me.

And dang it! I was all over that bidness with my support (but thankfully not my money, honey) and I'm sad to see it was perhaps wasted.

Bueno. Onwards and upwards. Now if you'll excuse me, I have a red skirt and gree ruffled shirt to sew.

Great socks!
I always felt the same way Elizabeth did, but never had anything to back it up with either.

((hugs)) like i said to roxy, you have a beautiful heart. that is more beautiful than the uglines of people who would take advantage of it.

those socks rock. :)

Super socks and a gesture that reflects the generosity of most Knitty folk.

It makes me angry and sad that such generosity has been exploited so a huge thank you to yourself and Roxy for speaking out.

Oh, and I failed to mention that she went out clubbing all night long the Night before she moved into her apartment. And she got drunk the night before she started the job at the bakery. Which, after two days, she was asked not to come back to. Fucking up that bakery job, which we all rallied behind her to get in the first place, was probably the worst of it all.

OH MY GOSH! I can't believe she did that...well, wait a minute. Yes, I can. I admit that I've had a bad vibe about that girl almost from day one, but I thought it was just me being a bitch. I just don't trust easily and don't buy into every sob story I hear. There are a million sob stories out there. I'm really sorry that nice, trusting people were taken advantage of and hurt. That sucks.

Now, onto the good things. Your socks are lovely. What a kind thing for Vknits to do.

Wow, I had no idea it had gotten this far. I get to the boards so sporadically. Sadly, I am one of those who has a soft heart to go along with my hard mouth. Thanks to Roxy, she saved from losing my money.

This instance won't change me a bit. It is the 2nd time I've been scammed on the board and by someone well known. Oh well.
