Am I Spoiled? Are We All?

With the advent of e-mail, beepers, cell phones, text messaging, and fax machines, have we all become spoiled with instant communication? Why, after two days of back and forth, wonderful e-mails, am I all of a sudden self-conscious over the fact that I have yet to receive an e-mail today from a certain guy? It starts out with a promise of a phone call on Tuesday. Nada. He fell asleep watching ESPN. Uh-huh. Likely story, I can deal though. Then last night, the phone call was supposed to happen. By 9 I was wondering what the hell? I texted a quick "did you fall asleep again?" and got a message that he was sorry, and was at the hospital because his step-dad had a seizure. He said it happens on occasion. I said "so do birthdays. But I'm sure you won't be spanking him. I'll be thinking good thoughts." And I got a simple "thank you" in return. Today - nothing. I sent an e-mail saying that I hoped all was well. 3 hours later - nothing. Mind you, the previous 2 days we'd each respond to the other's e-mail within a couple minutes. So now, I feel like I'm in 8th grade again. Great. Somebody send me some clearasil because I'm sure this means I'm about to break out or something. Geez.

i hear you. checking your email every 30 seconds blows. i can hear what's going through your head...

"did he write back yet? now? ...how bout now?"

maybe you should tear yourself away from the computer awhile just to prove that you are better than that. go for a walk, pet a kitty, make a snack. that's what i would do, before deciding i had waited long enough and sprinted back to the computer.

"...now?"

good luck.

I know what you mean. When you know pepople have access to technology, you do tend to expect an immediate response.

Ah little turtle girl,

Alas, I have bad news. It could be that a) He's freaking out and is likely to crap out on you for fear of intimacy b)He's just not that into you. Remember that from Sex in the City!? Oprah had a whole show dedicated to this very dilemma. If a guy is into you, he'll stop at nothing...not come up with LAME excuses. It's been my experience that guys have SERIOUS commitment phobia. One minute things are going great and then *dead air*! I've been there done that myself...ultimately, you just have to move on and stop emailing, texting, calling, thinking about him. Sooner or later, *trust me* he'll get back to you. It will be on his terms and he'll have some putrid excuse for why he crapped out on you. Don't settle, there's better out there. You're a pretty, intelligent, witty, funny lady...don't sweat the schmucks!

dulcedosa - you're right. I know you're right. But what I don't get, is why all of a sudden nothing? I mean, it's not like I said anything risque or innappropriate. I just don't get it. After the e-mails we exhchanges, I feel like I deserve more.

turtlegirl,

I was driving home today and another thought occurred to me. What if he's already involved with someone? Even worse, married! I've had situations when guys just disappear off the rader because they were seeing someone else OR they got scared of having more feelings OR they just weren't that into me after all OR all of the above! *sigh* You aren't the only one to have this happen. Chin up! :*
