Accio Sock Yarn!

Wow, no blog posts since Monday. Didja miss me? Heh. I forgot to mention that I'd be out of town on bidness this week. I was up in beautiful (yet somewhat chilly) Hyannis, Massachusetts. Cape Cod. It was nice. But it was all work (and some play, but none that allowed me to find the local yarn shops. Phooey.) When I came back late last night, I had a stack of mail waiting for me. One of which came from the wonderful Zonda. When we met up recently, she mentioned she had managed to get her hands on 2 hanks of Sunshine Yarns Gryffindor Sock yarn. One of which made a pair of socks for her DD. I admired her ability to get to websites at just the right time to grab what most other miss completely. You see, I'd been wanting this yarn for a while. Not for me. No no. To make socks for my nephew to match the scarf I made him for Christmas last year. Well, Zonda just made my nephew a happy, happy boy. Not that he knows it yet, but he will come his birthday in the spring. Check out the goods: Sunshine Yarns Gryffindor Sock Yarn I'm thinking of doing the heel and toe in a contrasting yarn so that I can add length as needed while his feet are still growing. He's 12, so his feet aren't nearly done growing yet and I'd like for him to get as many years as possible out of any pairs of socks I make for him. So. I'm nearly finished one of the Citrus Feather and Fan socks. A plane ride will do that for a project. Heh. I just need to make sure I'm happy with the cuff length then binKP Classic Circs Peeling Coatingd it off. I've already started the second one, so no fear of SSS there. But while knitting these, I'd noticed something disturbing. I'm using my Size 1 KP Classic Circs and the coating is peeling! Check it out! (And yes, I did cut my nails down.) The needles now have little ridges where the coating has peeled. I swapped Tvini for these, so I'm not sure I can complain to KP myself, or if I should ask her to. What do y'all think? Edited to fix the title. Assio, Accio. Toe-may-toe Toe-mah-toe right? Wrong. Bleh. Thanks Adam! Edited AGAIN to say that I called Knit Picks, and y'all are right about their customer service! They're sending me a new set right away! Yay!

Yeah, I'd contact KP directly. They definitely shouldn't be doing that.

See. I had a feeling those Knit Pick needles were going to be a disappointment. I'm in love with my Addi Turbos. Did you read where I sent my KP Knitting Bags back. I gave them feedback and why I was sending them back and they gave me a full refund. I think you should contact them and send them the pics of the shedding needles and I'm sure they will send you replacements.

As a HUGE HP fan, I'm totally coveting your yarn. Delicious. Though I think you just added another thing to my Christmas To-Knit list! My little bro is a big fan too...

And I say absolutely contact KP. That's not ok. Shedding needles. Yeesh.

Oh - and happy YPF! :)

Oh, and if you are concerned that they are going to give you trouble as you aren't the original purchaser (though I doubt they will), just tell them they were a gift.

You must have gotten a bad one - I use mine constantly, and haven't had any problems.

Call KP directly. Tell them it was a gift.

I was WONDERING where you were!! Check out my blog in a few for yarn pr0n with my NEW CAMERA!! WOOOOOT!!!

Love the yarn!

I will admit, I was going thru Turtle withdrawal as well.

Love the yarn, if HP never existed I'd say it looked like a spaghetti and sauce colorway.

I'd call/email KP too. What's the worse they tell you? Get bent? And from what others are saying, I doubt it.

Funny you should post the ever hard to find Gryffindor sock yarn. I stalked Sunshine Yarns' etsy shop Tuesday to get a skein of the Gryffindor yarn when she last updated. But mine will be used for socks for me - I'm greedy like that with HP stuff :)

Um, Christi dear? I hate to be a Harry Potter nerd, but the spell is spelled Accio, not Assio. Sorry to be an Ass...io. Ok, sorry, there were too many puns in that sentence to pass it up ;)

And never fear, my Yarn Pr0n entry, featuring 3 new skeins of my very own hand-dyed is on it's way.

Love the yarn BTW, I've been wanting some of that for a while, it's so pretty!

Hi! I bought my daughter a set of the KPs and she had a broken cord. She called them - even though I bought them - and they shipped her out 2 new cables without any problems - She didn't have to do anything but call. They want to know if there are any problems because this is their new line Sue

Good to know about the KP.

Glad they're replacing them!

And yay sock yarn!

Well, wow on those needles, I'll have to watch out when I finally break my 0's out of the package!

Can't wait to see thee socks for your nephew! I am hoping to cast on for DD's HP socks this week, but they have to be done in secret for her!

Holy cow! You were about 15 minutes from me! I would have loved to meet up with you and I could have brought you to a few different yarn shops. Next time you're in the area, let me know. :)

I must be careful not to let my Pie learn of the existence of Harry Potter Sock Yarn. He'll probably want me to whip up a Quidditch cape out of it or something.

And PS - thank you again :)

Love the yarn. Glad to hear the customer service was so good! You were in Hyannis, which is only about 15 minutes away from my parents- and I'm there all the time! I actually don't know if there actually IS a good yarn shop anywhere in Hyannis, apart from the usual Michael's and whatnot... Sad, but true.

Oh, we have good yarn shops here. Not in Hyannis, but in the surrounding area. It would probably take about 15 minutes to reach them. The next time you're in the area, we all need to meet up!
